Dundee United, founded in 1909, remain one of Scotland’s established provincial clubs, with The CalForth Construction Arena still a difficult enough venue when the side is organised and the crowd has something to hold on to. Their major honour remains a single Scottish Cup, enough to give the club a place in the domestic record without overstating the current scale of the operation.

The 2026-27 Premiership campaign has them sitting sixth with 12 points, a position that reflects a side capable of useful results rather than sustained authority. Recent form has been mixed but respectable: a 1-1 draw at St Johnstone followed wins over Hibernian and St Mirren, with the 3-0 victory in Paisley and 4-0 win at Kilmarnock showing they can travel with threat.

The squad is relatively young, averaging 24 across 25 players, with a market value of around £10m according to Transfermarkt. Lachlan Rose and Zac Sapsford lead the scoring with four goals each, while Lyall Cameron and Jesse Randall have added two apiece.

United have tended to be livelier away than at home, scoring 1.6 goals per away match but conceding at the same rate. They have also struck first inside 20 minutes in five of 13 league matches, a useful warning for Celtic: this is a side that can start sharply, even if its defensive numbers leave room to work with.

Dundee United are currently a mid-table Premiership side with enough attacking output to require attention, particularly away from home. Their League Cup run reached the second round, and their league standing is the main measure of their season for now.
