SC Braga sit in the established tier of Portuguese football: founded in 1921, based at the Estádio Municipal de Braga, and familiar enough in Europe to require more than a glance from Celtic supporters.
Their 2026-27 campaign has them ninth in Liga Portugal, with a European schedule that has included the Conference League qualifying play-off round and the Conference League league phase. The squad is large – 41 players – and young, with an average age of 24.
Braga’s home figures point to a controlled side, averaging one goal scored and none conceded per match. Away from home, the shape is looser: they carry a threat, scoring two per match, but concede at the same rate. They have also started quickly often enough, scoring the first goal inside 20 minutes in nine of their 20 league matches.
Recent league form has been stubborn rather than fluent. A 1-0 win over Vitória SC followed draws with Moreirense, Estrela Amadora, Benfica and Estoril, after a 2-1 defeat at Santa Clara. Pau Víctor Delgado and Ricardo Horta lead their scoring with three goals each, with Diego Rodrigues Oliveira and Fran Navarro on two.
Braga are a mid-table Liga Portugal side with clear European experience, a tight home record, and enough away attacking output to matter. They are not to be overplayed, but they are not background noise either.
