Tony Watt was born in Coatbridge on 29 December 1993 (age 32), and came into the senior game through Airdrieonians before Celtic paid around £100,000 for him in January 2011. He was still a raw striker then, but Celtic gave him the platform that put his name into wider circulation.
His Celtic spell was short enough in first-team terms, but it mattered. By July 2014 he was off to Standard Liege for around £1m, a decent fee and a move that set the tone for a career that would rarely stay still for long.
After Belgium came a run of clubs and countries: Standard Liege, Charlton Athletic, Oud-Heverlee Leuven, St Johnstone, CSKA Sofia, Dundee United and Partick Thistle all featured before he settled more fully at Motherwell. It was a career built in stages rather than one clean line, with Watt often having to find rhythm again after another move.
His most productive league season came back at Dundee United in 2023–24, when he scored 13 goals in 36 appearances. That was the sort of return that has not always followed him around, but it showed there was still a useful centre-forward there when the fit was right.
Watt is now with Partick Thistle, wearing squad number 32. In 2026–27 he has made seven league appearances, along with four League Cup appearances with one goal, three Scottish Cup appearances with three goals, and four Premiership play-off appearances. Across all competitions for Partick Thistle, he has 18 appearances and four goals.
His market value is around £128,000, according to Transfermarkt. From Airdrie to Celtic, Belgium, England, Bulgaria and back through Scottish football, Watt’s career has been a well-travelled one, with Partick Thistle the latest stop.
