Sead Kolasinac, born on 20 June 1993 (age 33), is a Bosnia and Herzegovina international defender now with Atalanta. Usually used as a centre-back, he has also spent much of his career on the left side of defence, where his directness and strength made him a fairly awkward proposition.
His senior career took shape at Schalke, where he came through in Germany before earning a move to Arsenal in 2017. The significant loan spell in his career came with a return to Schalke in January 2021, a move that looked like a reset after his time in London had become less settled.
Kolasinac left Arsenal for Marseille in 2022 and had his most productive league season there in 2022-23, scoring four goals in 33 appearances. That was a decent return for a defender and reflected a spell in France where he carried more attacking threat than his later role at Atalanta would usually demand.
He joined Atalanta in 2023 and has remained part of their defensive group. In 2026-27, he has made four Serie A appearances and one in the Conference League qualifiers, with his current market value put at around £8.5m by Transfermarkt.
Kolasinac has also continued to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring in World Cup qualifying and the Nations League this season. His career has moved from Schalke to Arsenal, through Marseille and on to Atalanta: a solid route for a defender who has generally found work at a good level.
