Our part-time subject of interest, Scott Arfield, was ushered into the world on 1st November 1988, making him currently 37 years of age. Born and bred in Scotland, Arfield currently delights fans with his equivocal performances as a central midfielder for Livingston FC, if delight can indeed be the appropriate term. Standing at a dizzying height of 5ft 10in (1.78m), and with a weight of 11st (70kg), it would appear that the number 37 jersey he dons carries more significance than a simple squad number. A crude estimation of his market value, courtesy of Transfermarkt, suggests a value around a mere £43k. One begins to wonder if a career in banking would have been more lucrative.
His career took off, or more accurately, started taxiing in July 2006, when he joined Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership as a trainee. During his first spell at Falkirk, Arfield appeared 183 times and found the back of the net a whopping 25 times. Apparently, scoring wasn't his forte.
In July 2010, Arfield swapped the rambunctiousness of Falkirk for the equally stimulating landscapes of Huddersfield Town in England, a venture that cost them near about £343k. During his historically significant tenure at Huddersfield, Arfield scored seven goals and made 96 appearances. Riveting stuff, indeed.
In July 2013, Scott decided to up sticks and move to Burnley in the English Premier League, a move rather akin to trading in a second-hand car for a slightly less battered make and model. He strutted his stuff on the Burnley pitch 177 times scoring a total of 21 goals.
In July 2018, Scott offended Celtic fans worldwide by leaving Burnley and joining Rangers FC in the Scottish Premiership. The highlight of his time at Rangers was the season of 2018-2020 when he managed to score 11 goals in 29 appearances, an anomaly in his otherwise consistent record of mediocrity.
Apparently desiring a change of scenery or a new Netflix subscription, Scott bolted overseas to the U.S.A, joining the MLS team, Charlotte FC in July 2023. For two glamorous seasons in the States, Scott made 27 appearances for Charlotte FC, stamping his mark with merely two goals. Then, in July 2024, Arfield sensibly decided the MLS wasn't for him and returned to the greener pastures of England with Bolton Wanderers, only to leave them after a year.
February 2025 marked Arfield's much-anticipated return to Falkirk, and he didn't disappoint, although that would depend on your standards of disappointment. He scored 10 goals across 28 appearances, before predictably upping sticks yet again in January 2026 and traipsing over to Livingston. At Livingston, he's currently dabbling in mediocrity, with 6 appearances under his belt so far.
Our tenacious lad even had a whirl at the Scottish Cup 2025-2026 for Livingston, where he managed, against all odds, to get on the end of a ball to score a goal in a single start. I'm told he has the match ball on his mantelpiece at home.
