Midfielder Roland Idowu, born on 21 January 2002 in the Republic of Ireland, has plied his trade primarily as a central attacking midfielder for St Mirren in Scotland. Standing at 6ft (1.83m) and weighing 11st 11lb (75kg), Idowu has been a fixture in the number 7 jersey.
After his early career in the Emerald Isle, starting at Bohemian FC in August 2021, Idowu only made five appearances in his debut season. The fledgeling midfielder transferred to Waterford in January 2022, continuing his tenure in the Premier Division of the Republic of Ireland.
However, his ambitions were bound for pastures new, and in January 2024, the ever-moving midfielder transferred to England, joining Shrewsbury Town in League Two. Six months later, however, he found himself moving again. This time, it was a move to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, albeit only on loan.
The loan spell at St Mirren seemed to be the making of young Idowu. During the 2024 - 2025 season, he made a significant impact, making 31 first team appearances and finding the back of the net on four occasions. Recognising his potential, St Mirren decided to make the deal permanent, acquiring him from Shrewsbury Town in July 2025.
It seems the Saints' faith in him was well-placed. In the current 2025 - 2026 campaign, Idowu has already made 22 first team appearances - clearly ingratiating himself with the new gaffer. And he hasn't been just making up the numbers, either; he's proven his worth in the League Cup, finding the back of the net once in three starts, and in the Scottish Cup, where he has netted twice in a single start and three substitute appearances.
All things considered, it might not have been smooth sailing for Idowu from the get-go. But from the turbulent beginnings of his career, it seems that Roland Idowu has finally found his place at St Mirren, commanding the midfield and pleasing the Paisley crowd.
