Our own lad Roland Idowu, born in the humble surroundings of the Republic of Ireland on the 21st day of January, in the year 2002, is currently plying his trade as a midfielder for the beloved St Mirren. With a commanding presence on the pitch, he stands 6 foot tall or, for those with a preference for metric details, 1.83 metres. He carries around a weighty 11st 11lb, or 75 kg, if that's your way of measuring.
Idowu proudly dons the number 7 on his back, but his is a tale with more than a few interesting numbers off-the-pitch too.
In August 2021, Roland found himself lacing up his boots for Bohemian FC of the Premier Division in his homeland, where he clocked up a solid, but modest, five appearances in his debut season.
Then, in the January winter transfer window of 2022, he had a brief stay at Waterford, another side in the Irish Premier Division, before traversing the Irish sea to join the ranks of England's League Two side, Shrewsbury Town, in 2024.
His time south of the border was also short-lived as he later joined the Saints of St Mirren, initially on loan, in the summer of 2024. His performances in the Scottish Premiership caught the eye, as he graced the St Mirren first team on 31 occasions, garnishing these appearances with four touches of goal-scoring brilliance.
This compelling form saw Idowu complete a permanent move to St Mirren in the following summer transfer window of July 2025, for a fee that remains undisclosed to this day.
Now becoming a more familiar figure in the black and white strip of St Mirren in the 2025-2026 season, Idowu has taken to the pitch in the starting line-up twice, in league competitions. He's also had a taste of silverware, having participated in the League Cup for St Mirren in the same season, scoring a goal from three started matches and a single substitute appearance.
Despite his youth, Roland Idowu has had quite the footballing journey already, and time will tell where this will lead him next.
