Richard Taylor, born on the 2nd of October 2000, is an English professional football player. Now aged 24, Taylor has positioned himself as a reliable central defender for the Scottish Premiership side, St Mirren. Taylor's stature at 6ft 2in (1.89m) and weight at 13st (83kg) quickly paint the picture of an imposing figure on the pitch. You can often spot him donning the number 5 jersey.
Before his current tenure with St Mirren, Taylor navigated a sea of transfers to various clubs across England and Ireland. In July 2019, Taylor bid farewell to Burnley in the Championship and transferred to Southend United, a team competing in England's National League.
A series of loans soon followed. By February 2021, Taylor briefly graced Barnet, another club in England's National League, with his defensive efforts on a loan term. By March of the same year, Taylor returned to his former club, Southend United, as his loan period came to an end.
June and November 2021 saw Taylor transfer once more within the National League of England, first to a team which remains unnamed, then to Dagenham & Redbridge. His journey to Waterford in the Republic of Ireland's Premier Division only started in January 2022, where he went on to make 28 first team appearances and score one goal in league matches during his debut season.
It was in January 2023 when Celtic's rival, St Mirren, grabbed the opportunity to secure Taylor's services. He clocked in 11 first team appearances in league matches in his initial season (2022-2023), a figure which more than doubled the following season, resulting in 26 first team appearances. The current season of 2024-2025 has seen Taylor add 25 additional first team appearances to his St Mirren resume, coupled with another goal.
Additionally, Taylor has appeared for St Mirren in numerous tournaments, including the League Cup 2024-2025 season where he made a substitute appearance. In the Scottish Cup 2024-2025 and the Conference League Qualifiers 2024-2025, he kicked off one game and made several appearances on the bench. His journey with St Mirren continues.
