Reo Hatate, born on 21 November 1997 in Japan, is an assertive midfielder whose primary position is central midfield. Currently striding out in the green and white of Celtic F.C., Hatate stands at a modest but agile 5ft 7in (1.71m), tipping the scales at approximately 11st (70kg). He dons the number 41 jersey and has been graced with the honour of representing his country, earning caps for the Japan national team.
In terms of his contemporary market value, it has stretched to around £11m, a figure evidenced by Transfermarkt.
Hatate first fused his career with Kawasaki Frontale of the J1 League in Japan when he signed in August 2018. In his debut season of 2019, he advanced to the first team, making a solitary appearance in league matches. His performance fabric continued to weave impressively with 31 and 30 first team appearances through 2020 and 2021 respectively, netting five goals in each season.
The winter transfer window in January 2022 opened the gates for a move from Kawasaki Frontale to the illustrious Celtic F.C. in Scotland. The transfer fee saw a tumble of coins worth around £1.4m. In his maiden season (2021 - 2022) at Celtic, Hatate registered 17 first team appearances, bagging four goals. Seasons 2022 - 2023, 2023 - 2024, 2024 - 2025 and 2025 - 2026 saw him make 32, 16, 37 and 11 first team appearances respectively, netting a cumulative 20 goals.
Hatate has also tried his boots at international competitions; he's played his part in the Champions League 2023 - 2024 campaign for Celtic with three starts, and contributed in the League Cup 2025 - 2026 for Celtic with a start and a substitute appearance. He also took part in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 for Celtic with three starts and one appearance as a substitute, with World Cup Qualifiers Asia 2024 - 2026 for Japan observing him making one start and two appearances as a substitute. Guarantees for success are slim but Hatate has proven himself an asset in League Qualifiers as well, starting two matches in the Celtic's Champions League Qualifiers 2025 - 2026 and the Europa League 2025 - 2026, scoring two goals in five appearances.
