Pau Torres, born on 16 January 1997 (age 29), is a Spanish central defender now with Aston Villa. At 6ft 4in (1.92m), he is an imposing presence, though his game has generally been built on composure rather than simple size.
Torres made his name at Villarreal after an early loan spell that helped move him from prospect to first-team defender. That period away gave him senior football before he returned to settle properly at Villarreal, where he became a regular and added a useful set-piece threat.
His most productive league season came in 2021-22, when he scored five goals in 33 appearances for Villarreal. For a centre-half, that was a decent return rather than a statistical oddity.
He later moved to Aston Villa, where his market value is now around £38.5m, according to Transfermarkt. In 2026-27, he has made seven appearances across all competitions for Villa, including three in the Premier League, two in the FA Cup, one in the UEFA Super Cup and one in the Champions League.
Torres’ career has run from a Villarreal education and a formative loan spell to regular football in England. He remains an established defender at a strong level, with his best club years so far rooted in Spain and his current work being done at Villa Park.
