Nick Pope, born 19 April 1992 (age 34), is an English goalkeeper with Newcastle United, where he wears the number 1 shirt. At 6ft 3in (1.91m), he is an imposing presence rather than a keeper built on neat understatement.
His early senior football was modest enough. At Charlton Athletic in 2012-13, his league involvement amounted to one appearance, with the loan work around those years doing more for his development than the bare league tally at his parent club. For a goalkeeper, that sort of apprenticeship is usually less glamorous and more useful than it looks from a distance.
Pope is still a regular first-team figure for Newcastle in 2025-26. He has made 27 league appearances this season, along with one League Cup appearance and eight in the Champions League, giving him 36 appearances in all competitions. His current market value is around £7m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career has developed from a low-key start at Charlton into a sustained role as a Premier League goalkeeper. In 2025-26, he remains part of the Newcastle side rather than a name drifting towards the margins.
