Born on 7 March 1996 in N. Ireland, footballer Liam Donnelly, now just turned 30, wears the number 44 jersey for St Mirren where he operates largely in the role of a central defensive midfielder. An individual of healthy build, Donnelly measures 5ft 11in (1.81m) and weighs 12st 6lb (79kg).
Donnelly began his career in the thriving N. Ireland Premiership where he joined Dungannon Swifts in July 2011. During his debut season for the Swifts, the 2011 - 2012 campaign, Donnelly made seven appearances in league matches.
A year after his initiation into professional football, Donnelly transferred to Fulham in England's Premier League in July 2012, however, the terms of this transfer remain undisclosed. Fast-forward to July 2015, and Donnelly, broadening his footballing horizons further, proceeded on loan to Crawley Town in England's League Two, where he made ten appearances.
By August 2016, Donnelly had transferred from Fulham to Hartlepool United in England's National League. During the ensuing 2016 - 2017 season, he made 32 appearances, followed by 22 in the subsequent season, in which he also managed to score two goals.
Leaving England behind, Donnelly transferred to the Scottish Premiership in July 2018, signing with Motherwell. In his first season, he made seven appearances and netted once. His next season saw him make 22 appearances and score impressively seven times. However, in the following 2020 - 2021 season, Donnelly made only one appearance but regained momentum in the 2021 - 2022 season with 23 appearances.
July 2022 saw another change for Donnelly when he transferred to Kilmarnock, another Scottish Premiership club. Over the next three seasons, Donnelly made consistent appearances, numbering at 22, 27, and 25 respectively, and scored a total of three goals.
In July 2025, Donnelly transferred once again within the Scottish Premiership to St Mirren. As of the current 2025 - 2026 season, he has made 15 appearances and scored one goal for his club.
Apart from league matches, Donnelly has also made his presence felt in cup tournaments, participating in the 2025 - 2026 League Cup for St Mirren with two appearances as a substitute, and in the Scottish Cup for the same season, making a start and coming on as a substitute twice.
