Kyogo Furuhashi, a striker now plying his trade in Rennes, was born on 20 January 1995 in Japan. Standing at a modest 5ft 6in (1.7m) and having a weight of 9st 12lb (63kg), he currently boasts a market value of about £12m, according to Transfermarkt. With a contract set to run out in June 2027, Furuhashi has a little over two years left at Rennes, where he carries the number 7 on his shirt.
His professional journey kicked off with FC Gifu in the Japan Lower Leagues in January 2017. In his debut season, Furuhashi delivered a noteworthy performance with 24 appearances and five goals to his name. His capabilities were further consolidated with a transfer to Vissel Kobe in the J1 League in July 2018, a significant stepping stone in his career achieved for a fee of about £140k.
Furuhashi continued to see his career graph grow exponentially with his new club. His first season at Vissel Kobe saw him net five times in 13 appearances. The ensuing years witnessed a steady increase in his contribution with 10, 12, and 15 goals per season respectively in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
In July 2021, Furuhashi's career carried him away from his homeland for the first time. Moving to Celtic in the Premiership in Scotland, he was acquired for a fee rounding up to £4.6m. His time in the green and white shirt of Celtic would prove to be the most impactful period of his career thus far. From the 2021 - 2022 season to the current season of 2024 - 2025, Furuhashi's impressive goal tally ranged from a minimum of 10 to a high of an outstanding 27 in the 2022 - 2023 season.
Despite his successful stint with Celtic, Furuhashi decided to set sail once again, moving to Rennes in the Ligue 1 in January 2025 for about £10m. Despite being in the early stages of his career at Rennes, Furuhashi has already managed to make three first team appearances, and it will be interesting to see how this chapter of his career unfolds.
