Born on 13 December 2000, Latvian defender Kristers Tobers currently plies his trade primarily as a central defender for Aberdeen. Standing tall at 6 ft 2 in (1.9m) and weighing 13st 3lb (84kg), Tobers is a heavyweight on the pitch, adorned with the number 24 jersey. His footballing talents have not just been confined to his club commitments, as he has also had the privilege of representing the Latvia national team.
At present, according to Transfermarkt, Tobers' market value is set around a respectable £845,000. He is contracted to Aberdeen until 30 June 2028, which leaves a sound three years and one month to demonstrate his true value to the club.
Before joining the Scottish side, Tobers had quite a journey in the footballing world. In January 2020, he was transferred on loan from Liepāja in the Virslīga in Latvia to Lechia Gdansk in the Ekstraklasa in Poland. He played for three seasons for Lechia Gdansk making a respectable number of appearances each season; 10 in his debut season, 17 in the following year and 11 in his final season. In a strange turn of events, Tobers transferred once again from Liepāja to Lechia Gdansk for an undisclosed fee, despite already being on loan with them. Tobers played two more seasons for Gdansk making a marked improvement in his performances with 27 appearances in his final season.
In July 2023, Tobers continued his journey by transferring to Grasshoppers in the Super League in Switzerland. Here he made 29 first team appearances in his debut season, and in the current 2024 - 2025 season, he has made ten first team appearances and netted one goal. His time at Grasshoppers, however, was short-lived as he transferred yet again, this time to Aberdeen in the Premiership in Scotland for a fee of around £700k in January 2025. In his current 2024 - 2025 season with Aberdeen, Tobers has made ten first team appearances, with plans to continue playing for Aberdeen in the 2025 - 2026 season.
Besides his club commitments, Tobers has participated in several international competitions, including the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 with Aberdeen, and international assignments which include Euro Qualifiers 2022 - 2024 for Latvia, scoring one goal in seven starts, and the Nations League 2024 - 2025 for Latvia where he started five matches and made one substitute appearance.
