Josh Mulligan, our not-so-famous son of Scotland was spontaneous enough to arrive into this world on 12 November 2002. Aged 23, as of the time of this decidedly dry missive, he's strutting his stuff as a central midfielder for Hibernian. Mulligan – not to be confused with a second chance in golf – stands at a none too daunting 5ft 8in tall (or 1.75m if you're of a more continental persuasion). The lad is in fairly decent nick too, tipping the scales at 12st 1lb (or 77kg for the metrically minded amongst you.) For the superstitious, it's worth noting he comes adorned with the number 20 on his back. Presumably, Scotland was short of midfielders, as Mulligan has also donned the dark blue of the national team.
For those of you of a financial disposition, young Josh is valued at around £850,000, according to Transfermarkt.
The journeyman started off on his Premiership odyssey as a trainee at Dundee (that's the city, not the fictional crocodile wrestler) in July 2017. He had a thrilling, unforgettable impact during his debut 2018 - 2019 season there, making a staggering one appearance. But, the lad's a grafter, and proportionally improved his standing by scoring 2 goals across 11 appearances in the 2021 - 2022 season. Seasons 2022 - 2023 and 2023 - 2024 saw him graduate to making 31 and 18 appearances respectively, scoring with the same frequency as a broken clock.
In a surprising twist, Dundee loaned him to Cove Rangers in January 2020, only to miss him so profoundly they called him back in June. Spending more time on loan than a library book, he was then farmed out to Peterhead in October 2020, dutifully returning to Dundee in June 2021. Demonstrating their fickle affections again, Dundee then passed him over to Peterhead in July 2021, eventually having a change of heart in January 2022. These clubs clearly don't know whether they're coming or going. Or perhaps Josh just has a knack for making himself intensely missed.
Finally, in July 2025, someone at Dundee remembered they did once pay actual money for players and he transferred to Hibernian for an undisclosed fee (probably less than a round of drinks). Proving he can be semi-consistent, he currently maintains his statistically mundane ratio of 1 goal per 15 appearances. Mulligan also turned up for the League Cup 2025 - 2026, scoring once in 2 appearances, and trotted around aimlessly in the European playground of the Europa and Conference League Qualifiers for Hibernian, scoring once in a combined 6 appearances.
So, there's Josh Mulligan for you. Not quite up there with the greats, but at least he's living the dream. Or more accurately, turning up and occasionally kicking a football in the general direction of the goal. Be still, my beating heart.
