Joe Newell

Joe Newell of Hibernian was born in Birmingham, England on 15 March 1993 (age 33).

Joe Newell, born on 15 March 1993 (age 33), is an English central midfielder associated most closely in recent years with Hibernian. His best league return came at Rotherham United in 2015-16, when he scored five times in 35 appearances.

At Hibs, Newell has operated primarily in the middle of the park and wears the number 11 shirt. In 2026-27, he has made two league appearances, along with two in the League Cup, one in the Scottish Cup and three in Conference League qualifiers.

Newell’s career has been that of a steady, established midfielder rather than a headline act: useful at Rotherham, then a regular figure at Hibernian across domestic and European qualifiers.
