Jeremie Frimpong was born in Amsterdam on 10 December 2000 (age 25) and came through the Manchester City system before Celtic bought him in September 2019 for around £350,000. He arrived as a young right-back with obvious pace and enough cheek in his game to make an early impression in Glasgow.
Celtic was the first senior platform, but not the club that came to shape his career. In January 2021 he left for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £12m, a sharp profit and a reminder that development can be a brief business as well as a footballing one.
Leverkusen became the substantial spell. Across five seasons he made 133 league appearances and scored 23 league goals, a striking return for a defender. His most productive campaign came in 2023-24, when he scored nine times in 31 league matches, numbers more commonly associated with an attacking midfielder than a right-back.
Now with Liverpool, where he wears number 30, Frimpong has made 11 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions in 2026-27, including goals in the FA Cup and Champions League. He has also played twice for the Netherlands in European World Cup qualifying. His current market value is around £32.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
His career has moved quickly: Manchester City prospect, Celtic breakthrough player, Leverkusen regular, and now Liverpool right-back. The Celtic spell was short, but it was the point where his senior career properly began.
