Jamie McCart, born on 20 June 1997 (age 29), is a Scottish central defender with Hearts. His career began at Celtic, where he came through as a trainee, but his senior football has been built almost entirely elsewhere.
He left Celtic for Inverness CT in July 2018, a practical move for a young defender needing proper first-team work rather than another spell on the edge of things. From there his career moved through Inverness, Rotherham United and Hearts, but St Johnstone became the club where he was most clearly established.
Across three league seasons at St Johnstone, McCart made 82 league appearances and scored once. His busiest league campaign came in 2021-22, when he played 37 times and scored one goal. He also won a Scottish Cup and a League Cup during his time away from Celtic, the sort of medals that gave that period more substance than a tidy appearance total alone would suggest.
Now at Hearts, McCart remains a steady, orthodox centre-half rather than a player surrounded by much theatre.
