Hyeon-gyu Oh was born on 12 April 2001 (age 25) in South Korea and came through at Suwon Samsung Bluewings, where his strongest league return arrived in 2022: 13 goals in 36 appearances. That form took him to Celtic in January 2023, with the move costing around £2.5m.
At Celtic, Oh was a centre-forward with clear physical presence and a direct edge, though his spell was not a long one. He left in July 2024 for Genk, again for around £2.5m, a tidy enough piece of business rather than a career-defining chapter in Glasgow.
After Celtic, he moved through Genk and then Besiktas, where he remains involved in the first-team picture. In 2026-27 he has made 14 appearances and scored three goals across all competitions for Besiktas, including seven in the Süper Lig, five in Europa League qualifying and two in the Europa League proper.
He has also stayed in the South Korea set-up, with three World Cup appearances and one goal, plus nine appearances and four goals in Asian World Cup qualifying this season. His market value is around £6m, according to Transfermarkt.
Oh’s career has run from Suwon to Celtic, then on to Genk and Besiktas, with his current role still that of a regular senior striker rather than a fringe name. He is not a finished article, but he has kept moving and kept himself relevant.
