Born in Scotland on 4 August 1991, Graeme Shinnie, now 34 years old, stakes his claim in football primarily as a central defensive midfielder. At present, he plies his trade with Aberdeen, donning the number 4 jersey. Physically, he stands at 5ft 8in (1.75m) tall and tips the scales at 11st 4lb (72kg). According to Transfermarkt, Shinnie's current market value hovers around £213k. His contract with Aberdeen is set to expire on 31 May 2026, which is in 10months.
Shinnie's professional career kicked off at Inverness CT in Scotland's League One as he joined them as a trainee in July 2008. Showing steady progression, his first team appearances escalated from a single league match in the 2009 - 2010 season to a solid 37 games in the 2012 - 2013 season.
In July 2015, he transferred to Aberdeen in the Premiership and has since become a mainstay. From season 2015 to present, barring a brief stint elsewhere which we will discuss shortly, Shinnie has consistently made more than 30 appearances each season for Aberdeen.
A seemingly brief divergence occurred in July 2019 when he transferred to Derby County in the English Championship. Over the course of three seasons at Derby, Shinnie racked up 85 league appearances and scored six goals. His time at Derby came to a head in January 2022 when he transferred to Wigan Athletic in the League One in England for an undisclosed fee. His tenure at Wigan was however short-lived, as he only managed 19 league appearances before he was loaned back to Aberdeen in January 2023.
Ultimately, Shinnie decided to return home and completed a full transfer from Wigan to Aberdeen in July 2023. He has remained at Aberdeen since, maintaining his impressive appearance record. In the 2024 – 2025 Scottish Cup, Shinnie scored one goal in his five appearances. He also made four starts in the 2023 - 2024 Conference League for Aberdeen.
