Finlay Robertson, a promising young larrik whose roots are firmly planted in the wild Scottish soil, was born on the cusp of the bleak Scottish winter on the 12th of November, 2002. Upon his 23rd year of gracing Mother Earth, Robertson chose to engage in the tiresome trade of a central midfielder for Dundee, where he lugs around his 11 stone (70kg) frame on a patch of grass for 90 minutes. To add to the visual spectacle, he is decked out in a number 10 jersey, which, might I add, does a poor job concealing his not-so-imposing stature of 5 foot 7 inches (1.71m).
Ah yes, for those having a morbid interest in an up and coming footballer's market value, it hovers around a whopping £168k, rounded to the nearest whole number. At least, that's what Transfermarkt assures us.
Robertson's illustrious career began at Dundee, back in the not-so-distant July of 2017, when the Premiership club in Scotland mustered up the courage to take him on as a trainee. Just a year later, he made his debut season in the 2018-19, where his extraordinary talent was showcased in a grand total of… one league match. A truly memorable feat.
However, dear Finlay wasn't quite ready to settle down. Scotland's Cove Rangers, clearly impressed by his unparalleled ability to warm the bench, decided to borrow him in September 2021. Fast forward a few months, the lad returned from Cove Rangers to Dundee in January 2022, presumably missing his comfortable spot on the Dundee bench.
From then on, his appearances, albeit sporadic, seemingly grew, peaking at an incredible 29 appearances in his 2024-2025 season. This season, as if to add a generous dollop of cosmic comedy, he has not only made nine appearances but managed to score a single goal. Bells and whistles, ladies and gentlemen, bells and whistles.
Alongside his roller-coaster journey in the league, he's managed to grace the League Cup 2025-2026 with three starts and a substitute appearance, and the Scottish Cup 2024-2025 with two starts and a substitute appearance. Ah, the marvellous world of Scottish football ladies and gents.
