Jota was born in Lisbon on 30 March 1999 (age 27) and arrived at Celtic from Benfica in August 2021. The move gave the Portuguese winger a proper platform after a stop-start early path, and he quickly became a natural fit on the left of Celtic’s attack.
His best league return came in 2022-23, when he scored 11 goals in 33 appearances. Across his Celtic spells he won three Premiership titles, one Scottish Cup and two League Cups, a fair haul for a player whose game could look light until it started hurting teams.
Celtic sold him to Al-Ittihad in July 2023 for around £25m. The move took him into a different footballing environment and was followed by a spell at Rennes, before he returned to Celtic and added further substance to his record in Glasgow.
Jota’s market value is around £4.5m, according to Transfermarkt. His career has already had a few sharp turns: Benfica prospect, Celtic attacker, £25m departure, and a return to the club where he has played his most productive football.
