'Jota' Neves Filipe, born on 30 March 1999 in Portugal, is a forward for Celtic who frequently plays as a left winger. Jota stands at 5ft 8in (1.75m) and weighs in at 10st 7lb (67kg), wearing the number 7 jersey.
According to Transfermarkt, Jota's current market value hovers around a respectable £6.8m. He boasts a lengthy contract with Celtic that, having over five years left, isn't due for expiration until 30 June 2030.
Jota's professional football journey took inception in July 2007, when he joined Benfica in Portugal's Liga Portugal as a trainee. Turning heads, Jota made four first team appearances during his debut season (2018 - 2019) with Benfica, culminating in an impressive total of 19 first team appearances in the subsequent 2019 - 2020 season.
In the follies of a professional footballer's journey, October 2020 saw Jota briefly leave his home club of Benfica for a loan to Real Valladolid in Spain's LaLiga. In this season abroad, Jota graced the pitch 17 times, and even celebrated a goal of his own making.
While his loan in Spain was a short chapter, the August 2021 switch where Jota transferred on loan from Benfica to Celtic in Scotland marked a significant turn in his career. Now approaching his third season with the Celtic, Jota has made consistent first team appearances and amassed a noteworthy goal tally. He first hit double figures in the 2021 - 2022 season, repeating a commendable season's performance in the following season of 2022 - 2023. The current season of 2024 - 2025 shows that Jota continues to be a vital asset in Celtic's line-up with six first team appearances and three goals so far.
In a demonstration of Celtic's faith in his talent, Jota was brought onboard permanently, with the club paying around £6.5m to acquire him from Benfica in July 2022.
Jota's journey, however, took a detour in July 2023. He left Celtic for Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Arabian Professional League on a transfer fee of an impressive £25m. A year later, he made another move, this time to Rennes in France's Ligue 1 for a sum of £6.8m. And yet, his bond with Celtic brought him back home. As of January 2025, Jota has made a return to Celtic for a fee of around £8.5m, and continues to put on impressive performances for the Scottish team.
As well as his appearance in the Premiership, Jota has also carried the Celtic colours in the Scottish Cup 2024 - 2025 and the Champions League 2024 - 2025. With no doubt, the lad from Portugal continues to be a significant figure in Celtic's on-pitch endeavours.
