Emmanuel Fernandez, an English chip off the old block, blessed the world with his presence on the 20th of November, 2001, making him a not-so-tightly-coiled spring chicken of 24. If you're ever in the mood to look up, and I do mean way up, you'll find him stationed primarily in the unforgiving role of a central defender for the Rangers. With a towering height of 6ft 4in (1.94m) and a weight tipping the scales at 13st 3lb (84kg), this number 37 is more apt to be taken for a basketball centre than a footballer, if you ask me.
If you're ever curious about putting a price tag on raw talent and determination, Fernandez's goes for a cool £7.5 million according to the statistical savants Transfermarkt.
Our story begins with a young Fernandez cutting his teeth in the lower English leagues at Ramsgate, before being hoofed over to Peterborough United in the League One in July 2021. His time at Peterborough involved repeated substitution appearances during the 2021 - 2022 season in a noble but veiled bid to keep the tea ladies warm, no doubt.
In a desperate attempt to find some action, Fernandez was packed off on loan to Barnet in League Two, come March 2023. Fated as it was, the maiden found herself back home, returning to Peterborough United following the conclusion of his loan in June 2023. His performance mirrored his previous season with another illustrious record of one goal conflated with one appearance - quite an admirable ratio if you ask any striker.
In a move that had certain sections of the footballing community asking questions primarily along the lines of "Who?", Fernandez was signed by those Scottish Premiership Titans known as Rangers in July 2025. Since then, he's switched up the gear and gone on to make a staggering 21 appearances and timed the net on five occasions in his current 2025 - 2026 season.
In addition to his league exploits, Fernandez has kept himself busy dabbling in the League Cup where he scored a goal in his solitary appearance, and dabbling his toes in Scottish Cup, and European waters with a couple of starts in the Europa League.
On face value, perhaps too early to label Fernandez, or 'Manny' to his mates, a world-beater. However, this Englishman abroad seems to be settling into the unpredictable Scottish football scene and his potential could make a certain Loch Ness Monster blush. Unless of course, that potential decides to follow in the fabled footsteps of the very same monster and remain eternally elusive. Only time will tell.
