Djeidi Gassama is of Mauritanian origin, having made his mark on planet earth on the 10th day of September, 2003. Currently warming up the tender age of 22, the lad can be spotted causing havoc in the forward positions on the football pitch, primarily conducting his theatrics as a left winger for the Rangers. Proudly parading the number 23 jersey, Gassama is a menacing figure, standing at 5ft 9in (or 1.77m for those of you who prefer the continental method of measurement). Throwing around a weight of 11 stone (again, that's 70kg for you metric enthusiasts), one can confidently dare to refer to him as a sturdy figure.
According to the all-knowing Transfermarkt, our prodigal son Gassama is estimated to bear a market value of approximately €3.00m. With a simple stroke of conversion wizardry, we find ourselves arriving at a figure teetering around the £2.5m mark. Not too shabby, one might somewhat grudgingly conclude.
In tracing Gassama's humble beginnings, we find the lad starting as a trainee at the renowned Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, France in the scorching summer month of July, 2019. It was during the 2021 - 2022 season that he got a taste of the main squad, with a solitary league appearance to his name. Not much to write home about but we've all got to start somewhere, haven't we?
Perhaps seeking wider horizons, or maybe aiming for more regular game time, the September of 2022 saw Gassama hitching a loan ride to Eupen in Belgium. Plying his trade in the Belgian Challenger Pro League, the lad made 19 league appearances and managed to squeeze two goals past the opposition's last line of defence.
Having failed to ink his name in the starting lineup at Paris Saint-Germain, Gassama set his sights on England's green and pleasant Championship playing fields, fetching up at Sheffield Wednesday in August, 2023. Whilst there, he amassed a total of 78 appearances over two seasons, managing to charm the ball into the net ten times.
Seeing the brighter (or perhaps gloomier) skies of Scotland, Gassama prised himself away from Sheffield Wednesday in July, 2025, moving to Rangers for a tidy sum of just over two million quid. His current season has seen him make 11 appearances, scoring once. The opportunity also arose to strut his stuff in the League Cup and across the vigorous plateaus of European competition - the Champions League qualifiers and the Europa League.
