Dan Neil, born on 30 November 2001 (age 24), is an English midfielder whose senior career has been shaped above all by Sunderland. A central defensive midfielder by trade, he built his reputation there through regular first-team football rather than noise.
Across four league seasons with Sunderland, Neil made 134 league appearances and scored eight goals. His most productive campaign came in 2023-24, when he scored four times in 42 league games, a fair return for a player usually asked to do the less decorative work in midfield.
He is now with Rangers, where his 2026-27 season has included seven league appearances, two League Cup appearances with two goals, one Europa League qualifying appearance and two in Conference League qualifying. In all, he has made 12 appearances for the club and scored twice.
Neil’s career to date is mainly a Sunderland story, with his Rangers spell still in its early stages. The bulk of his senior football, and the clearest evidence of his level, came on Wearside.
