Dan Burn, born on 9 May 1992 (age 33), is an English defender with Newcastle United, where he wears the number 33 shirt and is used primarily at left-back. At 6ft 7in (2.01m), he is an unusually imposing full-back, which is not a sentence often written with a straight face.
His career was shaped the hard way, with early loan spells giving him the sort of senior football that tends to strip out any academy gloss. By the time he reached Wigan Athletic, he had become a more settled first-team defender, and his most productive league season came there in 2017-2018, when he scored three goals in 26 appearances.
Newcastle is where Burn has had his most visible spell. In 2025-2026, he remains a regular first-team presence, with 29 Premier League appearances and one league goal, alongside two FA Cup appearances, two League Cup outings and 11 in the Champions League, where he has also scored. Across all competitions for Newcastle that season, he has made 44 appearances and scored twice.
He has also been involved with England this season, making five appearances in European World Cup qualifying. His current market value is around £5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Burn’s career has moved from development loans and a productive Wigan spell to a sustained role at Newcastle, where he remains relevant in the side rather than merely hanging around the squad.
