Dan Barlaser, born on 18 January 1997 (age 29), is an English central defensive midfielder with Middlesbrough. He came through at Newcastle United, but his real grounding came away from Tyneside, where loan spells gave him the senior football that academy promise does not always survive.
Crewe Alexandra and Accrington Stanley were part of that early education, but Rotherham United proved the more important step. Barlaser found regular league football there, and his best attacking return came in 2020-2021, when he scored three goals in 33 league appearances for Rotherham.
That spell helped establish him as a Championship-level midfielder: not especially showy, but tidy enough on the ball and used to working in the less glamorous parts of the pitch. Middlesbrough later brought him in, where he has continued as a central midfield option.
His current market value is around £1.5m, according to Transfermarkt. Barlaser’s career has been shaped by loans, regular football at Rotherham, and a steady place in the English league system with Middlesbrough.
