Cheick Diabate, born on 21 January 2002 (age 24), is an English centre-half whose senior career has been shaped largely at St Johnstone. A commanding 6ft 4in (1.92m) defender, he has been used primarily through the middle of the back line and has worn the number 3 shirt.
The substance of his first-team football has come in Perth. Across two seasons with St Johnstone, Diabate has made 34 league appearances and scored four league goals. His most productive campaign was 2025-26, when all four of those goals came in 34 league matches – a useful return for a defender, even allowing for the usual caveats about centre-halves and set pieces.
He also made two League Cup appearances for St Johnstone in 2025-26. For now, Diabate’s career is a St Johnstone story above all else: a tall English defender building a senior record in Scotland, with his strongest spell so far coming at McDiarmid Park.
