Cameron Carter-Vickers was born in Southend-on-Sea on 31 December 1997 (age 28) and represents the United States. A central defender by trade, he came through at Tottenham Hotspur, where his development was shaped less by a straight path into the side than by the useful graft of loan football.
Those early senior spells mattered. They gave him regular matches, different dressing rooms and the sort of defensive work that cannot be learned from academy polish alone. By the time Celtic took him from Tottenham in August 2021, he looked like a player who had already had a few rough edges knocked off.
His first season at Celtic was also his most productive in the league, with four goals in 33 appearances in 2021-22. More importantly, he settled quickly into the centre of the defence and became one of the side’s dependable pieces rather than a passing option. During his time at the club he has won three Premiership titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups.
He remains part of the current Celtic squad, wearing number 20. In 2025-26 he has made 13 appearances in all competitions, including seven in the league, without scoring. His market value is around £7.5m, according to Transfermarkt.
Carter-Vickers’ career has moved from Tottenham promise, through loan-learned experience, into a substantial Celtic spell. He is not a showy defender, which is part of the point. Celtic have had plenty of noise around them in recent years; he has usually offered something more useful.
