Blair Spittal

Spittal has made three appearances (two starts, one as sub) in the 2026–27 Premiership and has also featured in one League Cup match, one Scottish Cup match and five European qualifying matches – the distribution of those appearances points to a rotational role used across domestic cups and continental qualifiers rather than as a settled league starter.

Spittal is 30 and plays as a central attacking midfielder for Hearts. He progressed from Partick Thistle to Ross County in July 2019, had productive scoring seasons at Ross County with nine goals in 2023–24 and six in 2022–23, moved to Motherwell in July 2022 and then joined Hearts in July 2024, a trajectory that shows a period of peak output in the early 2020s followed by moves between established Scottish Premiership clubs.

Spittal moved from Motherwell to Hearts in July 2024 on a free transfer; he had joined Motherwell from Ross County in July 2022 on a free transfer; he originally moved from Partick Thistle to Ross County in July 2019 on a free transfer and undertook loan spells back at Partick Thistle in October 2020 and January 2021 – transfers are characterised by free moves and short-term loans rather than transfer fees.
