Benjamin Nygren, a central attacking midfielder for Celtic, was born on 8 July 2001 in Sweden. Standing at 6ft (1.84m) tall and weighing 12st 1lb (77kg), he adds substantial presence to the midfield. Wearing the number 8 jersey, Nygren is not only a vital asset for Celtic but has also represented the Swedish national team.
As of now, Nygren holds an estimated market value of roughly £5m (Transfermarkt).
His professional journey began in January 2017, as a trainee at IFK Gothenburg in Sweden's Allsvenskan. Despite a modest first team entry with three appearances and two goals during the 2018 season, Nygren showcased his prowess in the following season with four goals from twelve appearances.
In July 2019, Nygren transferred to Genk in Belgium's Pro League for a hefty sum of around £3.4m. His time in Belgium was short-lived, however, with just five league appearances over two seasons. In October 2020, he secured a loan move to Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie, where he enjoyed a more robust role, appearing 45 times over two seasons and netting four goals.
In January 2022, he was transferred to FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga for a fee of approximately £540k. Nygren truly flourished in Denmark, making 87 first team appearances and scoring 25 goals over four seasons.
His journey took him to Scotland in July 2025, when he transferred to Celtic for around £1.5m. In the current 2025 - 2026 season, Nygren has made a substantial impact with twelve first team appearances and five goals in league matches for the Hoops. Furthermore, he has taken part in Celtic's League Cup campaign, EU Championships Qualifiers, and Europa League matches; not to mention his contributions to Sweden in the World Cup Qualifiers.
It is clear that Nygren's movability across various leagues has contributed handsomely to his experiences and tenacity as a player, something that Celtic surely counts as an advantage.
