Auston Trusty, born on 12 August 1998 (age 27), is an American central defender at Celtic. A commanding 6ft 3in (1.91m), he brings obvious physical presence, though his usefulness is not just in being tall and available, which is sometimes where lazy descriptions of centre-halves begin and end.
His most productive league season came at Birmingham City in 2022-2023, when he scored four goals in 44 appearances. That spell helped establish him in British football before he moved on to Sheffield United, from whom Celtic signed him in August 2024 for around £6m.
Trusty’s first season at Celtic brought a Premiership title and a League Cup win in 2024-2025, as well as a Scottish Cup runners-up medal. He has remained involved in 2025-2026, making 26 league appearances, four in the Scottish Cup, one in Champions League qualifying and seven in the Europa League, where he has scored twice.
Across all competitions for Celtic, he has made 38 appearances and scored two goals. His current market value is around £5m, according to Transfermarkt. For now, he remains a regular first-team presence rather than a peripheral squad option.
