Arne Engels, born in Belgium on 8 September 2003 (age 23), joined Celtic from Augsburg in August 2024 for around £11m. A central midfielder by trade, he arrived as a costly signing by Scottish standards, but with enough first-team football behind him to make the gamble look more considered than speculative.
His first season in Glasgow remains his most productive league campaign, with nine goals in 34 appearances in 2024-25. He won the Premiership and League Cup that season, then added another Premiership title in 2025-26, with Celtic also finishing runners-up in the Scottish Cup during his time at the club.
Engels left Celtic for West Ham United in August 2026 for around £22m, a sizeable profit on the original fee. The West Ham spell formed the next stage of a slightly unusual career route, with 10 league appearances there in 2026-27 alongside two league appearances for Celtic in the same season.
He remains part of the current Celtic squad and is valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt. His career so far has run through Augsburg, Celtic and West Ham, with his main honours and best league return still coming in Glasgow.
