Alex Gogic, born on 13 April 1994 in Cyprus, currently plays as a central defensive midfielder for St Mirren. The 30-year-old stands at 6ft (1.85m) tall and weighs in at 13st (83kg). Not only a pivot player at his club, Gogić has also made his mark on the international stage, representing the Cyprus national team.
In July 2013, Gogić left behind the warmth of the Super League in Greece, where he played for Olympiacos, to join Swansea City in the Championship in England. Several years later, in February 2017, Gogić would find himself moving further north, transferring to Hamilton Academical the Championship in Scotland.
Gogić's debut Scottish season was a cautious one, seeing him make seven league appearances for Hamilton Academical. He began to find his footing in the 2017-18 season, contributing one goal from 18 appearances. Cementing his place in the team, he then made 16 appearances in the 2018-19 season, followed up by 29 appearances and another goal in the 2019-2020 season.
In July 2020, Gogić took another step in his career and moved from Hamilton Academical to Hibernian. His form remained strong during his first season, producing 34 appearances and a goal in the Premiership. He then went on to make nine appearances in the 2021-22 season.
However, 2022 marked another move for Gogic, starting initially on loan, from Hibernian to St Mirren. Despite the temporary change, Gogić would quickly establish himself in the Premiership side, making 13 appearances and scoring one goal in the 2021-22 season. He would eventually make the move permanent, and proved to be a worthwhile acquisition for St Mirren. In the following seasons from 2022-2024, Gogić became a consistent player, racking up 68 appearances and putting four goals past opposition 'keepers.
His journey with St Mirren has continued into the 2024-25 season, where he has so far played in 27 games and added another goal. Gogić has also seen pitch time in the League Cup and Scottish Cup representing St Mirren, not to mention his contribution to Cyprus' international efforts in the Euro Qualifiers and the Nations League. A prominent figure on the field, there's no doubting what Gogić brings to the game.
Gogić's trajectory has seen him surface leagues like a pinball, bouncing from Greece to England, before making himself a steadfast figure of Scottish football. His contributions at club level, combined with international duty, are a testament to his skill and stamina.
